National Asian Pacific American Pre-Law Conference hosted by NAPABA

The Pre-Law Conference will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2013 during the 25th Annual NAPABA Convention

The Pre-Law Conference offers prospective applicants the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the legal profession and the law school admissions process. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with attorneys in different practice areas, current law students and admissions professionals.

Conference Objectives

  • To educate prospective Asian Pacific American law students about preparing for the Law School Admissions Test, applying to different law schools, financing their legal education, succeeding in law school, and passing the bar examination through public discussion groups, forums, panels, lectures, workshops, and otherwise;
  • To educate the community about important issues related to the legal profession;
  • To raise awareness of minority and diversity issues related to Asian Pacific Americans in and out of law school and the legal community;
  • To connect prospective Asian Pacific American law students with other prospective and current law students, attorneys, educators, and judges to foster professional mentorship and networking opportunities.

Travel Stipend
Pre-Law Conference attendees from outside the Kansas City, MO area may apply for limited stipends for travel. Stipends will be awarded based on demonstrated financial need and interest in attending the conference. Stipends may be awarded on a rolling basis. The deadline to apply for stipends is October 11, 2013.

Registration and Breakfast Networking (8:30 am-9:00 am)

After checking in and receiving conference materials, conference participants will have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with current law students, attorneys, and admissions professionals who are attending the NAPABA Convention.

NAPABA will welcome attendees to the Conference. Participants will then be provided with a road map of the schedule and conference materials.

“If I knew then what I know now, I would . . .” Learn from a panel of current law students what they would do differently if they were transported back in your shoes as applicants. They will also discuss what it takes to be a successful law student. Q&A to follow.

Financing Your Legal Education (11:00 am-12:15 pm)

What does law school really cost these days? What can applicants do NOW to prepare for this three year financial endeavor? What role should scholarships play in the decision making process? What can a law student do to get the best return on their investment? Two financial aid experts walk conference participants through the ins and outs of financing their legal education.

Lunch and Plenary Session w/ NAPABA Convention Attendees (12:15 pm-1:45 pm)

Pre-law conference participants will join NAPABA Convention attendees for a delicious lunch and hear from speakers who are experts in their field.

Three female members of Congress will share their experiences navigating the halls of power as women and as Asian Pacific Americans. They will discuss the various paths they took that lead them to Congress and the challenges and victories they experienced along the way. These Congresswomen will also share their perspective on current issues and hot legislative topics.

Law School Resource Registration Instruction

NAPABA invites law schools to send materials for our law school resource room, so we can make those materials available to attendees throughout the conference. All law schools must first register by clicking here and completing the form. Mailing instructions will be sent to all registrants. Please do not send materials directly to NAPABA. Once the form is completed, law schools must then pay a $75 registration fee by check. The check should be made payable to the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and mailed to:
